The relationship between endothelial progenitor cells and coronary disease.

This study points out a correlation between the number of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and the severity of atherosclerosis severity. An inverse relationship is demonstrated, independent of traditional risk factors. The conclusion is that this may represent an important new diagnostic and therapeutic target for coronary disease treatment.
