Asthma and the anti-inflammatory effects of zinc.

This article explores the clinical evidence that zinc (Zn) decreases inflamed airway epithelium in mouse models of allergic inflammation. Nutritional deficiency of zinc has been shown to worsen lung function, and the reduction of airway inflammation caused by an increase in zinc provides support for zinc supplementation trials in human asthmatic individuals.
