This review of endothelial progenitor cells points out their potential for therapeutic use in augmenting neovascularization. It discusses the origins and functional properties of bone marrow-derived progenitor cells, and also summarizes the multistep adhesive and signaling events that provide recruitment and incorporation of these cells to sites of injury.
