Pycnogenol, a pine bark extract, has well-documented antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. This study detected on a cellular level highly potent prevention MMP-9 (matrix metalloproteinases) release on two major metabolites. Their conclusions provide a rational basis for Pycnogenol’s use in prophylaxis and therapy of disorders related to imbalanced or excessive MMP activity.
