EPC dysfunction contributes to vascular complications in type 1 diabetes.

This study explored the concept that endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are dysfunctional in diabetes, and found that EPCs were 44% lower than normal in type 1 diabetic patients. They hypothesize that EPC dysfunction contributes to the pathogenesis of vascular complications in type 1 diabetes.
