This study examines the way umbilical cord blood can be harvested to generate in culture cells with characteristics of mesenchymal progenitor cells (MPCs). MPCs are multipotent and are the precursors for marrow stroma, bone, cartilage, muscle and connective tissues. The findings: “Results showed that umbilical cord blood-derived mononuclear cells gave rise to adherent cells, which exhibited mesenchymal-like phenotype.”
