Aging, progenitor cell exhaustion, and atherosclerosis.

This study hypothesizes that atherosclerosis progression is influenced by the age-related degradation of endogenous progenitor cells that normally repair and rejuvenate the arteries. The data indicates that progressive progenitor cell deficits may contribute to the development of atherosclerosis.
